About the Coffee Grower

Indonesia's coffee narrative spans over 300 years, deeply rooted in its colonial history. Among its sprawling archipelago of over 18,000 islands, only about ten have become prominent in coffee production. Smallholders, who manage approximately 92% of the nation's coffee output, predominantly use the semi-washed method, preserving the traditional essence of Indonesian coffee.

In the west of Indonesia lies Sumatra, home to the expansive Lake Toba, situated in the north. This lake, stretching 100 kilometers in length and reaching depths of 550 meters, is cradled by the Bukit Barisan mountain range, where fertile volcanic soils enrich the landscape, promoting lush jungles. At an elevation of about 1,000 meters near Lake Toba's northern tip, the village of Sipangan Bolon thrives, supported by over 500 farmers of the Koperasi Kopi Toba Cooperative.

This “Raja Toba” coffee, cultivated on the rugged terrains of Lake Toba, exemplifies the cooperative's commitment to excellence. Known for its distinctive spicy flavor profile, Raja Toba is a testament to the rich coffee heritage of Indonesia and the meticulous care of the Koperasi Kopi Toba Cooperative's farmers, offering a specialty coffee experience that truly represents the essence of Sumatra.
